On March 24, Businesses for Health Papua New Guinea (B4H), together with leading PNG businesses and partners, will deliver a bold public installation in downtown Port Moresby to mark World TB Day.
At the centre of this year’s activation is a powerful visual message:
TB is airborne. Anyone can breathe it in.
The installation features 2,100 helium-filled balloons, representing the scale of Papua New Guinea’s tuberculosis epidemic — one of the highest in the world, with the National Capital District carrying the largest burden of cases.
Balloon colours reflect sputum diagnostic indicators, reinforcing a simple, life-saving message:
If what you cough up is not clear — get tested early.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Tuberculosis is preventable, treatable, and curable — but only if it is found early.
With an estimated 70,000 new cases each year in PNG, too many people are still diagnosed too late.
Businesses for Health works with workplaces across PNG to:
· Support early case finding
· Reduce stigma and fear
· Help workers and families access testing and treatment sooner
This work aligns with the National Department of Health’s vision of a TB-free Papua New Guinea.
